I have some graphical buttons on a site and they look fine in everything except IE. IE puts a nasty border round the buttons when they are clicked. Is there some way of avoiding this?

Link borders are a usability thing, they allow you to use a keyboard to tab from one link to the next. Other browsers have link borders too, but IE's are surely the most obtrusive.

If you add this to the anchor tag, it will get rid of them

but it's considered 'naughty'

many users don't just 'click' they have to use keyboard or other meands to putthe focus on a link and then activate it, in seperate actions.

Obvioulsy by removing the focus they won't be able to follow the link!

In IE you can use the hidefocus attribute, for example:

(assuming you've already removed the coloured border)
