Hello, I am a novice webmaster. I copied the code from the "Drop-down Menus with CSS" using the simple menus (great article)

http://www.wpdfd.com/editorial/simplemenus.htm

and placed it into my web pages.

I am getting a message from IE6 SP2 where the security has restricted the file from showing active content. This is due to the Javascript used for creating the menus.

I like the way the menus are displayed and the code was easy for me to understand and modify. However, I want the website to meet the least amount of resistance such as no security warnings. The site is a corporate site geared to senior financial professionals (simple but professional is key).

I have seen other drop down menus on sites on my machine without displaying this active content security message.

Are there ways for me to correct the code to avoid this issue or other similar code you would recommend? I do not have Flash.

Thanks for your assistance,

Joe

I'm sorry, I can't replicate the problem. My XP Pro is bang up to date with security patches and the menus work just fine.

Go to the page now and check

http://www.wpdfd.com/editorial/simplemenus.htm

If you are getting security warnings on your page, it must be something else that's causing it. I have to admit, I often see security warnings in IE6 even when there is no obvious reason.

You have to enable javascript in IE now, it seems. I thought clicking the warning message would give you the option to allow the active content. If not, from the menu bar, select "Tools: Internet Options" and then click the "security" tab. From there you should be able to select a default level that allows javascripts. Medium should be sufficient. You can also activate javascript manually by clicking the "custom" button.

I don't remember having to explicitly turn on JavaScript but then I didn't do a new install recently. I think the point is that *most* people won't have a clue about how to do this and when things don't work in IE, they might be more likely to try a *new* browser - or just give up!

Thank you for the replies. I do understand that javascript must be enabled for my security settings. However I noticed other websites not requiring me to enable Javascipts.

Being a corporate site (with viewers being conservative financial types), we will have people who may not change their security settings.

I just noticed when I went back to that site that I don't get that IE content blocking message. I am going to recheck the code but if there is something that likely would cause this message, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
