I am new to this forum but I was wondering if any of you can offer any suggestions about how I can improve the SEO on my new website.

I am trying to set up my own freelance web design business and I have developed my site on the following URL:

http://www.about-website-design.com

I have done some basic SEO work using articles that I have read in forums on the net and am wondering how good the SEO actually is on my site! Can anyone offer any comments or suggestions?

For best SEO results, your markup needs to be clean, it should have a good semantic structure, meta tags are little used nowadays, Google indexes content, not meta tags.

Even when you get all these things correct, it still comes down to your link popularity. When interlinking the pages of your website, try to include your keywords as anchors. In meta description and keywords section, try to include your keywords but don't try to stuff the keywords.

You need to put the right keywords, description, etc. Also, the meta title needs work.
