Are you looking for sites that list web designers or just websites?
The number 1 site to list your site is on DMOZ. They are used by all the major search engines.

The best way to increase your SEO is to :
1. Produce semantically correct HTML
2. Have many others that link to your website

These are the two most important elements to increasing your web presense.
Make sure you get your site listed at DMOZ.org.

Anything that requires a return link should be ignored. I noticed on your home page that there where a bunch of links to web design directories, I used to link to the same ones, when I removed their links I noticed my SERP's got higher, Google seems to frown upon directories that require a reciprocal link

Thank you Rob. I have removed the links to everything but our inner pages and the Stanford University reference.

I sort of inherited the website from a freind who passed away that I had been working with. He originally created the website 5 years ago, and while I redesigned the site, I had left most of his text intact.

I had not even thought about the reciprocal linking when I remade the site

Agreed, unfortunately these days it's very hard to get one-way links.

The big directories like DMOZ are probably your best bet.

hey guys!

we have just started a new website called "designhide.com" based on this exact idea... however if you check it I think you will find it much more in depth and extensive then the rest!

the focus is on visual representation, so every designer gets their own custom profile and controls whats in their portfolio.

take a look and check it out, i think you'll like it! at least, its another free link...

let us know what you think!

...also, no paying whatsoever! free for all, and the more projects you upload, the more highly you are listed!

...and no reciprocal links! though, they are appreciated...

My advice is to be careful with submitting to all kinds of websites. You can now be penalized for having links at the wrong websites.

I recently spoke at a seminar about SEO Search engine optimization and my topic was link building.

No one has mentioned use of Google's various applications yet, that never does page ranking any harm..

Get yourself a login with them for webmaster tools (site maps, verification etc), analytics, google maps, GMail and all that stuff. Nothing is a 'dead-cert' but every little helps..

There are dozens of CSS Galleries to submit samples of your best work to. Just Google CSS Gallery and you'll find a bunch.

I recently submited some of my Local Internet Marketing clients sites to a few. Now that some of my designs might be on par with getting into some of those better Galleries. Or, I think so at least.

You should setup a coder profile and add your web designs to your portfolio. That will help them to get some exposure and puts them in a central place on the web for you to show others. Here's my portfolio: http://www.coderprofile.com/coder/VBAssassin/portfolio

Kind regards,
Scott

I think you're spamming. This post is totally unrelated to what the original poster was asking.

Thank you for sharing places to link.
I checked many of them of out and listed with 3.
I am worried about overlinking.
I tried to get on dmoz when I was new and I was wondering how many times one can submit. From what I have learned it is very difficult to get listed with them.
Thank you.

Meant to join ages ago, great community here.

Some great links here, Has anyone looked at analysing the dmoz links nowadays?
Depending on the structure of your site the CSS galleries are an excellent form of website promotion.

Cheers Kev

Mike

I have had poor luck with DMOZ. Having been in the web business in Florida for over a dozen years I can't find a way to get them to list me. There is no feedback, no response, no way to track a URL submission...nothing. They are a dead end when it does not work because there is no place to go to find out what is wrong. No support=poor service.

Good one and thanks for the listing. They are the best sites i think so!! By the way, have you heard of MiNeeds.com? It really simplifies finding affordable Web designers. I used it to find them for my business site. Essentially, after I described what I needed on this site, I received several competitive bids from local web designers. I liked the fact that I didn’t have to call around and negotiate with each, and that web designers actually came to me.
