You can use the banner extension that's already a part of Joomla or you can download an extension that will work best for you.

follow below steps,
menu=>Components=>Banners=>Banner Manager->New (or Edit)
Banner Name: Enter a name for the Banner being created. This is the name that will be displayed in the Banner Manager and by which the Banner will be identified.
Client Name: Select the name of the Client, from the dropdown list of Clients, to whom the Banner belongs/is to be assigned.
Impressions Purchased: Enter the number of times that the Banner is to be displayed. Alternatively, if the Banner is to be unrestricted, tick the Unlimited check box that will allow unlimited display rights.
Banner URL: Select the Banner image to be displayed from the list of uploaded Banners.
Images must be stored in the joomla_root/images/banners directory to be available for selection here. The selected image will be shown at the bottom of this screen.
Show Banner: Select Yes or No to set whether this Banner will be available for the Banner Module to show, in the designated position, in the Front-end of the web site.

Once you've created your banner in Joomla, go to Extensions -> Module Manager and click New. There will be an option for 'Banner'. There select the position (my templates usually have a specific 'Banner' position). Use the settings down the right column to select the banners you want to show. Also do not forget to enable the banner module.
