Does anyone know of a good html editor available for both mac and pc?

BBEdit, Pagespinner, Webdesign are available mac only as far as I know. Likewise Topstyle Pro, and Homesite are pc only.

A single editor available for both platforms would be useful (well, easier to remember how to use at least!)

Yes, BBEdit and HomeSite are worlds apart in design and philosophy and I find it difficult jumping from one to the other too.

The two main WYSIWYG editors are cross platform (Dreamweaver and GoLive) and you can use them in text mode but I don't know of a 'good' text editor that runs on both.

Golive I've not tried but Dreamweaver I find so complicated that it hinders productivity.

Simple html editors do the job just fine for me. It appears for the moment that Notepad and Textedit are the closest we have to a cross platform editor.
