Could you explain what changes are needed to have sideways menus. My menu bar needs to go down the left edge of the page and then have the expanded menu grow over to the side and then down.

For the relatively positioned menubar items, add a
(or
for XHTML) to put them one above the other.

Alter the absolute positions of the menus with the margin-left and margin-top set to suit whatever you are doing. I don't think the JavaScript would be any different.

Menus are list items, so rather than use the non-semantic,. meaningless BR tabs, put them in an unordered list, then style the list as you wish.
