I can think of another glaring mistake when focusing on beauty first. Its like art, the piece might be beautiful to those well versed in it, however, for most the message can be lost.

Websites should be usable for those of different age categories...not just the under 30 crowd. The 30+ are just as important.

Websites should also be fast. Less than 3 seconds to load the main content/css.

Unreadable Text due to bad font.
Text Colors the same as background.
Background Colors very heavy.
Wrong Java Script Codes
Wrong Flash Videos
Bad CSS
Wrong images or no images

Another thing to consider when picking color schemes is that if you pick text and background colors of the same value then people who have color-blindness (which is a surprisingly large number of the population) won't be able to read your page properly.

Useful points, for me a good website must be plain and simple. Because excess of anything is bad. A website home page should be table less and home page file size must be less 40k . Flash may be used but must take Seo precaution.

Web design should be like " Love at first sight "

I agree. A simple website looks descent. Having too much adds looks like disaster. Sometimes I'm confused with some sites like that.

I think too many ads is probably the biggest one at the moment. I also usually don't like flash intros at all (I guess it depends on the type of website, a movie website would be acceptable).

The important thing is there must be a balance between the website design and the message/idea of the web content. For that, a website can communicate well with its users

The main point to consider when designing a successful website that already has traffic that you want to convert in sales leads is: KISS - which means Keep It Simple Stupid - the simple the website the better as they are easier to follow. And of course do a bright easily found call to action of some sort! That's it!

Yes All these make our website loading slow and it will take a long time for loading. Thanks for this. This will help a lot to work on it.

Also there should be more focus on the layout and navigation buttons on the page. Minimal use of flash or streaming videos must be avoided as they decrease the page load time which can be a frustrating experience for the user.

Of course yes. The best example is working without SEO knowledge and not having an idea about the keyword density. If there are more than three keywords in a one page, the page can get banned from search engines.

Designing a website requires more analytical skills than programming skills. Most web designers assume that their job is to simply code a set of given instructions for the site. The truth is, as a web designer, you are responsible for a website’s usability, functionality, creativity as well as its aesthetic interface. Failing to focus on all of these elements will result in serious mistakes that will not only hamper your reputation as a website designer but also create problems for your client.
And i think a website must be seo friendly so that it can get high rank on the search engine soon.
Thanks for sharing good information,
Best regards ,
Aaron.
